Online retailers are proving resilient despite tough economic times

VODAFONE Mobile operator Vodafone will join O2 when it launches its own third generation (3G) network by the beginning of next year. The initial launch will only cover part of Prague 9 and 10, according to a spokesperson. Vodafone initially bought the license to launch the network in 2005. The company had hoped the other two leading providers — O2 and T-Mobile — would be willing to share the network and the costs, but was unable to reach an agreement.

TESLA The production of Tesla television sets is returning to the Czech Republic after a 10-year absence, with the first models to appear before Christmas this year. The company that owns the trademark had previously leased it to a company importing the TV sets from abroad. The new sets will be produced in a factory owned by a Chinese firm in Nymburk, central Bohemia.
T-MOBILE Mobile operator T-Mobile’s Czech division paid out 7.74 billion Kč ($380.7 million) in dividends for last year, up from 6.78 billion Kč. The company declared dividends in 2004, when it paid 149 million Kč to its shareholders. T-Mobile Group is a majority shareholder of the company with a 60.8 percent stake, followed by České radiokomunikace with 39.2 percent.
INTERNET UPC, the country’s largest cable operator, saw a 28 percent increase in high-speed Internet users year on year through September, the company announced. UPC’s fixed-line network users increased 70 percent in the same time frame, while rival Telefonica O2 saw its fixed-line connections drop 11.3 percent. UPC cemented its leading position by acquiring the second-largest cable operator, Karneval, at the beginning of 2007.
