in response to the foie gras comment. she did not eat foie gras sir it was a normal duck liver, one that was not produced by forcefeeding the duck. the life of the duck in question is unknown perhaps it was free range and treated with the utmost care, but yes most likely it was raised in a cage sadly and cruelly like most animals for human consumption are. although i neither like foie gras or condon it been produced i do not like it when people talk about things they clearly no understanding of. so next time you see duck liver on a menu understand it is not foie gras but the liver of a duck.

How does Mr. Anders know whether the duck was "force-fed" to make the caramelized slices this writer raves about?

He is apparently is unaware that ALL ducks have a liver.

Another wanna-be writer spouting off with an un-founded opinion. Talk about cruelty....

According to Wency Leung, the duck liver appetizer was "stunning".

I wonder if the duck appreciated being force-fed in order to make your "stunning" appetizer. Foie gras is illegal in most civilized countries because of the extreme cruelty involved in its production.

Given Mss Leung's crass comments about vegetarians which I noticed offended some of your other readers as well, I can only assume that she is also indifferent to the cruelty which she is promoting in this week's review.

Top four key Lisbon arguments (News, 17 Dec, 2008)
Posted: 10:48 22/12/2008
I agree with the Lisbon Treaty but(always is there some "but")we should keep equality in all points among EU members and mainly keep national traditions and culture on the same level as this can be primary negative signal which could lead EU to its end and Im pretty sure that no one of EU leaders would wish something like that even though Im sometimes confused by some of the politicians statements and behaviour. With regard to much important tasks of EU as financial division for farming, health and educational system or environmental grants should be the main topics of European Parliament and European Commission.Underprivileged financial division among EU members or neglecting of resolution of many other problems are characteristic symptoms of sickly system. We shouldn't forget treat with each member of EU equally with acceptance to national, cultural and historical identity.Actually that is what make Europe interesting and more colourful.

Joining forces (News, 17 Dec, 2008)

Dear Sir,
I find this article objectionable and disingenuous in the way it presents as fact, the following sentence.
? Aside from Ireland, the other troublemaker in the Lisbon ratification process is the Czech Republic, which is the only member state that has not yet voted on the treaty. ?
The U.K. for one has not voted on the Treaty, and the Government is not allowing U.K. Citizens to cast a vote on it.
I do not believe Ireland to be a troublemaker, on the contrary, Ireland has always shown a willingness to enthusiastically embrace the EU and the ideals set out therein.
As I live in Belfast and therefore hold dual nationality ( Irish and British ) , my only wish is that I held the same constitutional right in the U.K. as my fellow country men have In the Republic of Ireland.
Regards,
Desmond Quinn

U.S. stalls plans for missile base (News, 17 Dec, 2008)
Posted: 18:54 19/12/2008
I doubt that the Czech house will vote to perpetuate the error of the Bush Administration into 2009.
The missile defense pact is as lame a duck as the administration that originated it. Every sensible member of the Czech house should agree with the Czech public and vote not to approve locating another foreign military base on their soil. Why would the Czechs who have had experience with an unwanted earlier super power on their soil actually invite by vote to permit the another super power to have a base on their sovereign territory? If the US Gauntanamo Bay naval base in Cuba could accommodate detainees for illegal interrogations so might the Brdy base be misused.
If the Czech Parliament approves the missile defense pact it will be subject to heavy scrutiny in the incoming US Congress as Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher recognizes.
The newly elected US Senate will undoubtedly invoke the "advise and consent" of the US Constitution which the outgoing administration sought to evade. January 20, 2009 the end of an error.

Far be it from me to be a defender of the Prague Post, but the postings against Ms. Leung have bordered on the absurd.

In her article, she QUOTED some people who were "anti" vegetarian. She then used the line, REFERRING TO THE QUOTES that "if vegetarians get no respect, Veg Food demonstrates they at least have a wry sense of humor about themselves."

If these readers lack the brain power to understand what was written, maybe they lack something in their diet?

'Green' tax aimed at used cars (Business, 10 Dec, 2008)
Posted: 15:51 16/12/2008
Dear readers,
I dont understand this tactic from the Government of CZ. To buy a new car in CZ is crazy as it usually either gets damaged, wheels go missing or stolen within the first week. I have just moved to CZ this year and bought a 1990 Peugeot for cheap as all my friends have had cars damaged as there is no security parking in Prague. First week my car was on the street the keyholes were ruined, a light was stolen and its 18 years old!!!

I think the government should put more pressure on the police to actually 'police' the streets of Prague and not just walk around the city center preying on the poor homeless. The real criminals are on the streets!

Searching for style, off the map (Tempo, 10 Dec, 2008)

Good piece. Keep them coming. Creative people like Ivancic and Mario Wild (Vinohradska) need all the publicity possible, and others in the wings will be encouraged. If Prague wants to come anywhere near being a 'fashion capital', the boutique culture has to be fed. To turn down Donna Karen shows great self-belief, and all the best to him. What Prague needs now is a fashion quarter. Possibly around DOX? Vinohrady is too fusty and will never become hip. The area around Savoy and that end of Kampa is another possibility...

I wish to correct the band name Dlouha Trava (Long Grass) mentioned in this article. The band is really called Druha Trava (Second Grass), so named because it is the second bluegrass band that founders Robert Krestan and Lubos Malina are in together and also because it largely stretches the so called boundaries of bluegrass music, while still using classic bluegrass instrumentation as well as occasionally adding another instrument or two. The band has toured the US every year since 1993, except for last year, but will return again in the fall of 2009.

I had the pleasure of hearing Monogram in 2005 in the US and have been able to enjoy a number of other Czech bluegrass bands both in the US and in the Czech Republic in the past and recent years. It is a wonderful community of people and great musicians! Just about a month ago, I was at the 30th anniversary of the band Cop at Lucerna which was a very memorable and exciting sold out concert!

Glass company declared bankrupt (Business, 3 Dec, 2008)

The cycle of greed is finally caching up to the Czechs. High prices, high taxes and an overvalued Czech crown. Perhaps the politicians will finally take note. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Expect to see many more Czechs loose their jobs due to government inaction and greed.

Electricity becomes a pricier commodity (Business, 3 Dec, 2008)
Posted: 12:41 09/12/2008
It is absolutely unbelievable how the producers and delivery agents of inelastic commodities like electricity and oil are allowed to continue making record profits each quarter, while the CEO of CEZ bathes in hundreds of millions of CZK in bonus money. These people are greed incarnate, and no one even seems to care...

Why doesn't Klaus shut up and go away? If he's so skeptical of the EU, tell him to put his money where his mouth is - or better yet, deny all the money flooding into the CR from Western Europe. If he hates the EU so much, why does he continue to accept its money? Sounds like a prostitute to me!
